HOWARD KLING, ILCA VICE PRESIDENT

Howard Kling grew up in a working-class home in Buffalo, N.Y. A filmmaker and organizer, Kling spearheaded creation of Workday Minnesota, the first online labor news service in the U.S. This is one of many groundbreaking projects Kling led as director of the Labor Education Service Telecommunications Project at the University of Minnesota in the 1990s. He went on to direct the overall Labor Education Service for a decade, retiring in 2020. After Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans, Kling proposed and organized the first ILCA Labor Media Convention Project that took place there in 2007. A Twin Cities resident, he also a playwright and member of IATSE Local 219. He studied English at the State University of New York at Buffalo with a concentration in theater and American working-class literature and was a two-term president of the Graduate Student Employees Union (GSEU).
